InterContinental Hotels Group has hired a cybersecurity firm to investigate the possibility of a payment card breach impacting some of its United States locations.

Experts working in the fraud prevention departments at financial institutions initially noticed patterns of fraudulent activity on customer cred and debit cards at IHG properties, according to KrebsOnSecurity.

The activity was primarily detected at Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express locations. After IHG was made aware of the fraudulent activity, it quickly launched an investigation, bringing on the cybersecurity firm to sift through its payment card networks.

“We are committed to swiftly resolving this matter,” said IHG in a statement. “In the meantime, and in line with best practice, we recommend that individuals closely monitor their payment account statements.”
