The personal information of 15,000 patients in the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is at risk after it was shared on social media by a former psychiatric patient.
Patient information including names, addresses, Social Security numbers and Medicaid identification numbers were obtained by the patient after they accessed a personal computer in the hospital library in October 2015, according to a report by RT. Hospital Library staff members witnessed the patient accessing the DHHS data but did not file a report.
In August 2016, security officials concluded that the patient did share the data on social media. An investigation completed in November determined the extent of the information that was being shared.
The social media platform where the information was posted has not been named.
