Global financial messaging system, SWIFT, has announced another string of attacks.

A private letter to clients reviewed by Reuters says the latest assaults began in June, and “customers’ environments have been compromised, and subsequent attempts (were) made to send fraudulent payment instructions.”

Researchers at FireEye have discovered a new ATM malware strain that may be behind the theft of 12 million baht from ATMs in Thailand.

Like other ATM malware, this version, dubbed RIPPER, can disable the local network interface, and sneakily wipes away forensic evidence through a secure deletion tool. RIPPER’s been hitting the same ATM brand, but features new capabilities.

Poorly hashed passwords were the culprit in the recent Infowars breach, in which the account information belonging to thousands of subscribers was hijacked.

Miscreants shouldn’t have too much of a problem decrypting the roughly 50,000 user account passwords that were hashed using the weak MD5 algorithm.
