As the cyber threat landscape continues to expand, one industry expert believes that corporate boards are lacking a high level of understanding of cybersecurity risks.

Gartner analyst Avivah Litan recently told ComputerWorld that corporate leaders - from the board of directors to the C-suite - are not taking the necessary steps to combat cyber threats, leaving CIOs and CISOs to lead the way.

Based on the National Association of Corporate Directors recent survey of 600 board directors, only 19 percent of respondents indicated that they have a solid understanding of cybersecurity risks, and more than half shared that it was difficult to oversee cyber risk.

Litan believes that it’s time for senior stakeholders to “get their act together.”
